History Of Distance And E-learning Education

April 15th, 2008

The term “E-learning” describes any kind of learning environment that takes place far away from the present traditional campus and classroom.

It began at the same time when a computer was developed and used for personal needs. The idea and practice of distance learning precedes the computer region by almost a century. In 1840, English shorthand classes were being suggested by accordance courses through the mail. The betterments to the postal service led to a large amount of “through the mail” type at the beginning of the last century.

Distance learning and e-learning is not the same thing. Distance education is the physical separation of the instructor from the student and the class room. E-learning became segment of the classroom environment.

Some appealed “the philosophy of education” to show that the teacher was basic to the educational process. This opposition cause early online degrees being considered subordinate to usually obtained degrees. The betterments in E-learning technology and the opportunity to create virtual audience and a virtual learning environment have broken down the opposition. It would not be astonishing if in the future, everything will be changed completely and the online degree will be coveted and respected.
